Sandwiches Summerset 2011

Catch the Bass in the Basin in 2011 when Sandwiches Summerset returns to the Basin Reserve on 19 March 2011.

In 2010, due to an extra heavy international and domestic cricket schedule at the Basin Reserve, it has been impossible to secure an appropriate date - and unwilling to relocate from the hallowed turf, SummerSet will have a well earned rest year. But don't panic! Plans are already well in place for March 2011, with the date now confirmed as Saturday 19 March.

Keep an eye on Wotzon.com for further details as they are announced.

Sandwiches SummerSet is an annual music festival that bids farewell to summer in New Zealand's capital with style. Founded in 2007 by the team behind Sandwiches, the 12 hour festival takes place at Wellington's iconic Basin Reserve cricket ground, and has featured an impressive lineup of international and local artists each year.

The festival has become a major fixture in Wellington's events calender and is part of Sandwiches continued commitment to bringing the biggest and brightest stars on the global music scene to New Zealand shores, whilst providing a platform for the up and coming and soon to be huge.

2009 Sandwiches SummerSet

For the third year running the hallowed cricket ground resonated to a solid 12-hour innings where music was the new sport - mixing bona fide legends, established acts and newcomers from here and abroad - across two stages on Saturday 18th April 2009.

Joining Fat Freddy’s Drop (NZ) on the SummerSet team were famed house DJ Nick Warren (UK), hip hop innovators and cricket aficionados The Nextmen (UK) with special guest MC P Digsss (NZ), drum and bass’s latest luminaries DJ Lynx and MC Kemo (UK), soul diva Hollie Smith with full band (NZ), electro house party DJ & remix king Bass Kleph (Aus), four piece popsters Charlie Ash (NZ) and audio genies Pitch Black (NZ).

"Without a shadow of a doubt one of the best festivals in the Southern Hemisphere." Norman Jay, DJ at Sandwiches SummerSet 2008

“The Basin Reserve was the perfect venue for such an event, offering space and greenery for the masses to wander around in. There was the two pronged attack of the main stage at the Basin's north end, and the swish looking Super-top to the south for people to get their musical hit from.” Darren, Texture Live Blog 2008

Sandwiches SummerSet is a premier annual day/night festival showcasing supreme live music, world-class hospitality, class on grass and a picket fence, all at the capital city’s infamous and iconic Basin Reserve. Music is the new sport, and last year Sandwiches selectors picked a world class team of big hitters to play across multiple stages, jamming bootlegs and classic cuts, and smashing original soul, funk and drum ‘n’ bass for six.

As far as day/nighters go, Sandwiches Summerset has it all - quality music, excellent venue and a healthy dose of Wellington vibes.

With its central city location, Historic Place's Trust status and age, the Basin Reserve is regarded by many as the most famous cricket ground in New Zealand. It became Wellington's official cricket ground on 11 December 1866 having been constructed on a former lake known as the Basin Lake that was uplifted in a major earthquake in 1855.

Motivated by their success as New Zealand’s best nightclub and commitment to keeping things fresh in the capital city, Sandwiches continues to push the boundaries of music and entertainment through SummerSet. By fusing live music with an iconic venue, top shelf hospitality and unmistakable atmosphere, SummerSet defines a new direction in New Zealand music festivals. Be part of it.
