The festival of music, dance and culinary arts

Crossings will feature various events from 14 July 2007 till 11 August 2007. The theme of Crossings 2007 festival will centre on South Asian Culture and its shifting median under the influence of Kiwi or Western culture.

Given the line between people and places has begun to blur into a new global reality, the South Asian Diaspora in Wellington are the ones who enjoy the best of both worlds – their ancestral home in South Asia and their good life in the new world where they have resettled. Nonetheless, in unison, they have retained their emotional, cultural and spiritual links with the country of their origin.

While promoting and preserving the South Asian culture, it is also the responsibility of the migrant South Asians to embrace the culture of their adopted country as a sign of gratitude and appreciation for all the opportunities. Crossings 2007 is a celebration of cultural amalgamation and in the spirit of what Richard Corliss wrote in Time, “culture moves forward by taking new and original voices from the margin and moving them into the centre”.

Crossings 2007 is presented by Arasta Productionz, an event management company operating out of Wellington.
