Porirua Festival of the Elements - Waitangi Day 2010

The 2010 Festival of the Elements is held on Waitangi Day, Saturday 6 February in Porirua City.

The Festival of the Elements is the largest Waitangi Day event in the country. With shows and activities designed for all ages and tastes, it's definitely a celebration you won't want to miss.

Headline performers this year include the award-winning musician Ruia, Legacy Dance Company, and performance poet Glen Colquhoun.

Food and craft stalls will be open for business all day. New for 2010, the Festival will incorporate the Big Day Art! event, where local artists can exhibit and sell their work to the public.

Best of all, it's free! Join 35,000 other visitors for a fun-filled day of culture and excitement.

The Festival uses the arts to celebrate the cultural diversity of Porirua, made possible by the Treaty of Waitangi. The elements of earth and air, fire and water embrace concepts of significance to all cultures, concepts around which we can all unite. Tangata Whenua and Tangata Tiriti rejoice together on Waitangi Day by way of the arts.

The Festival is about community and about the arts - most of the participants live and practise their art, culture or craft in the City of Porirua.

The Festival is centred on Te Rauparaha Park, the new Te Rauparaha Arena, the Poirua Aquatic Centre and Pataka. The Festival is organised by the Porirua Community Arts Council.
