2010 Montana World of WearableArt Awards Show [Showtime]

2010 Montana World of WearableArt Awards Show

The Montana WOW® Awards Show returns to Wellington from 23 September to 3 October 2010. General ticket sales are on now - see booking details below. Don't miss out on this spectacular and iconic theatrical extravaganza in 2010.

The 22nd Montana World Of WearableArt™ (WOW®) Awards Show will have you laughing, crying and holding your breath.

The Montana World of WearableArt™ Awards are an eagerly anticipated montage of theatre, dance, colour, movement and art. The annual non-stop spectacular is held at the TSB Bank Arena on Queen's Wharf in Wellington, New Zealand.

Make sure you don't miss out - if there is one show you need to see in 2010, it's the Montana WOW® Awards Show. Book your tickets now from the World of WearableArt website. Some seating categories have already sold out on certain nights.

Artists and designers from New Zealand and around the world enter truly amazing garments that are presented in a unique two hour show of choreography, music, lighting and special effects.

New Zealand’s Montana World of WearableArt™ Awards Show is an extravaganza that twists conventional perceptions of both art and fashion and weaves them into a performance that has been described as “Mardi Gras meets Haute Couture at a Peter Gabriele concert directed by Salvador Dali”. Over 160 incredible garments grace the stage across seven unique sections. In 2010 for the first time the Avant Garde section will be themed, with all garments Inspired By The Circus.

In 2010 the awards return to Wellington for a fifth year. From humble beginnings in 1987 as a promotion for a rural art gallery in Nelson, the two hour show has grown to become a New Zealand icon event, with 40,000 people attending it each year. Moving the event to New Zealand’s creative capital has enabled thousands more people to enjoy the magic of the Montana WOW® Awards Show every year. However it’s not just a Wellington event; it’s New Zealand’s much-loved theatrical extravaganza which appeals to people all over the world, and Wellington is proud to host it.

The Montana WOW® Awards are to stay in the capital for until at least 2012. Each multi-show season generates more than $10 million for Wellington as WOW-goers spend up large in hotels, restaurants, bars and shops. Since Wellington first hosted the Montana-sponsored awards in 2005, the audience has almost doubled. About 35,000 people now clamour for tickets to see the more than 300 outfits and experience the on-stage light-and-sound production, and about 60 per cent of showgoers are out-of-town visitors.

Suzie Moncrieff, WOW® Founder and Director and her team have spent two decades developing the original concept of WearableArt™ into a world-class event. The show has turned into a global phenomenon with a third of entries coming from overseas.

The 2009 Supreme Montana WOW® Award went to David Walker from Alaska for his sensational, 17th Century ball gown Lady Of The Wood (pictured). The Alaskan artist created the piece entirely out of mahogany and lacewood with 52 strips of maple and cedar veneer for the hooped skirt, topped off with a glamorous wig made out of wood shavings.
