Lambton Quay is the northern section of the 'golden mile', a route taking in Courtenay Place, Manners Street, Willis Street and Lambton Quay. The golden mile takes in many of the best shopping, dining and entertainment places in New Zealand.

Lambton Quay is busy with foot traffic on most days with some great places to stop for a coffee or to eat, beautiful old and new buildings to admire and many shops to browse. Cable Car Lane is located on Lambton Quay, where you can enjoy a scenic ride up to Kelburn, the Botanic Gardens or Victoria University.

The shops include the Wellington icon Kirkcaldie & Stains, along with many fashion stores, cafes, music shops, gift stores, jewellery stores, books and stationary stores, travel agents, beauty therapists and pharmacies.

Lambton Quay also plays another distinctive role and that is as part of the street stage for the ever popular Santa Parade every November.
