Nestled in Wellington's Botanic Garden is the ever lovely Lady Norwood Rose Garden. In summer the garden is abloom with around 3,000 different types of roses, from old favourites like Peace to modern beauties like Iceberg.

The garden is named in honour of Lady Norwood, wife of Sir Charles John Boyd Norwood, an influential Wellington businessman, Councillor and general Wellington enthusiast. At a Wellington City Council meeting on the 14th June, 1956, the Council chose to name the garden after Lady Norwood to show their appreciation for all the services the couple rendered to the city. In 1956 Lady Norwood presented the illuminated fountain, which sits in the centre of the garden.

Whether summer, winter, spring or autumn, the garden, surrounded by trees, has plenty of seating, and is the perfect place to come relax and gather your thoughts, away from the congestion of the city.

The Botanic Garden Cafe, now known as 'Picnic', located in the Begonia House, is open again after having been closed for the 2007 winter while refurbishment were carried out. Refreshments are also available on Tinakori Road or at the top of the Cable Car.
