Not only is Wellington New Zealand's political capital, it is also its cultural epicentre. Whether you are an aspiring artist, designer, filmmaker, lawyer, musician, scientist, writer, politician, business person, Wellington, or 'Wellywood', is a city where anything is possible.

Wellington's main university, Victoria University, has around 20,000 students, 3,000 of which are international students who come from over 80 countries around the world.

However, life is not all about studying, so while you're here make sure you take some time to discover exactly what is unique about this beautiful city.

As a Victoria University student you'll be privy to an amazing amount of events and activities. Each year Wellington hosts various festivals ranging from the International Arts Festival - which features top-class performers from all around the world - to the Fringe Festival with its zany alternative acts. There's also the Comedy Festival, International Film Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, Armageddon Comic Festival, the Cuba Street Carnival and the Chinese New Year Festival – to name just a few.

If you're an urbanite who can't get by without your daily caffeine fix, then you'll be spoilt for choice in Wellington. It has an abundance of stylish cafes and restaurants. In fact, the city has the most cafes per capita, in the world.

You'll never get bored in Wellington. There's always a new shop, bar or restaurant opening, an artist exhibiting, or buskers and street performers trying their luck at both Cuba and Manners Mall.

For those who enjoy live music, whether it is hip-hop, r‘n’b, rock, or jazz there is always something going on in and around Wellington restaurants and bars, check out the Gig Guide.

There are also plenty of attractions for those who prefer to be outdoors. Wellington is blessed with a beautiful harbour at the waterfront, beaches Oriental Bay, Lyall Bay, parks Frank Kitts Park, cultivated gardens Botanic Garden, and the city is framed by hills and bush treks.

Wellington is always buzzing with activities and events, from rugby at Westpac Stadium, to live shows at BATS Theatre, to art exhibitions at City Gallery.

Victoria University is located in the heart of New Zealand’s cultural capital, so a good time is never far away. Get out there, smell the coffee, walk the streets and immerse yourself in everything Wellington has to offer.
