Welcome to "Upper Hutt's Premier Experience" - Mayfair Cafe and its "Best Kept Secret" - The BoileRoom Wine bar. By stepping back in time or maybe back to the future where Great Fine food, coffee, wine and people meet history with warmth.

Mayfair Cafe, as it was once called "The Mayfair Theatre" is in a 100 yr old restored building. Mayfair has a “nostalgic ambience that exudes style, history and a café culture with a difference.

The BoileRoom Wine bar coined its name being the room that used to house the old boiler that heats the old historic cinema. Its bar adorned with a century old boiler saved during restoration has taken up new residence, amongst the red bricks, framed warmly by the dense Oregon bar. The crisp white ornate ceiling presides watchfully over the soft Dijon and full bodied Merlot colours of The BoileRoom walls.

Mayfair Cafe is open seven days with dinners served Thursdays, Friday and Saturday nights. Bookings are highly recommended. Whilst The BoileRoom is open 4 days Wed-Sat from 4 pm till late.

It boasts a comprehensive wine list and a fine selection of boutique beers. While at the cafe, on chilly winter days you really must sample the house speciality - a home-made mulled wine or try any time of the day, the Coffee Supreme De Luxe - your choice of coffee served with Sante bar.

Mayfair Cafe is also a great and ideal venue for a business lunch and it can also be hired for private functions. For a more intimate smaller group, The BoileRoom wine bar hosted a few
corporate functions, high teas, and birthdays.

With the Cafe’s expansive space, it hosted a few weddings where it can comfortably sit up to 70 with an a-la-carte style menu, it also hosted a few Big 21 to Big Five-O birthdays, with buffet style menu and even children's parties. It is expansive yet cosy as it has that 100 year old character and the great log fire!

From porridge to the famous giant scones, to the local favourite Hash Stacks, the Mayfair Classic Big Breakfast to Caesar salad, choices of Gluten Free to Vegetarian and Junior menu to boot! A dinner menu to die for - Head Chef-owner Rob Cowan delights the palette with a selection of his fine European, New Zealand and Asian cuisine influenced by his travels from around NZ, the UK, Sydney, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai and the Philippines.

"After my travels and NZ experience from great mentors and a Michelin star Chef, it is so great to come back to my roots sharing the tastes, smells , colours and flavours I've experienced" says Rob who is actually a local boy, born and bred in Upper Hutt.

Rob's experience stems from Brookfield’s estate, to the Boulcott Street Bistro, Te Papa's Icon, Felix Cafe and his culinary learnings stints overseas.

Mayfair Cafe and The BoileRoom supports the community and local talents. Every second Tuesday of each month, the café hosts Mainly Acoustic - an evening of unplugged, acoustic music featuring both local, countrywide and international artists.

The BoileRoom host the Soroptimist International every second Thursday of each month. It is a world wide organisation for women in management and the professions, working through service projects to advance human rights and the status of women.
