As you walk through the doors of Traffic Bar and Café the first thing you notice is how fresh
and modern the interior design is. Sun streams through the large windows giving the place plenty of
light. There is a open fire which is the centre of attention through winter. Traffic has bifold
doors that open onto a court yard with outside dining and views of the Tararua ranges. The interior
design flows well giving children and families plenty of space to relax and enjoy a meal
together.
Traffic welcomes young families, has a play pen and a variety of quality wooden toys. There is
also a children’s menu, baby changing facility and three high chairs available.
The food is fantastic. Traffic has a seasonal menu, using fresh local produce where possible.
They always have fresh seafood for seafood lovers. Organic free trade coffee which is made with
organic milk is available and made to perfection. Gluten free foods are available on the menu.
Traffic does a great Authentic Italian pizza too - they cook the pizzas in ovens on Italian stone to
bring out the full flavour. Also check out the daily black board specials.
Traffic bar café is on the site of the old Otaki Theatre, in the historic Otaki railway district, which was demolished in 2006 to
make way for four new retail outlets. While the building had little architectural merit, the native
timbers used for the floor and stage were salvaged for recycling and used in the Traffic bar and
cafe - the matai floor timber was used for table, counter and bar tops, and the tawa stage timbers
used as wall coverings behind the bar and open fire.
Traffic has plenty of parking available for customers. The cafe is very popular and is
recognised for having consistent friendly service and top quality food.
The café and bar is fully licensed and has an extensive wine list and eight to ten black board
wines. Every Friday night there are gigs on, with live music bringing the place alive. So if you’re
keen to be part of this great atmosphere, Traffic Bar Cafe is the place to be.
